Vision
Imagine a racetrack like no other, with the flow of a classic Grand Prix circuit and the benefits of modern technology. Area 27 was designed and built with intention, using natural elevation changes and a wide variety of corners to tempt, test, and challenge drivers.
Surrounded by breathtaking scenery in Canada's warmest climate, Area 27 is the motorsport equivalent of Pebble Beach.
Location
Endless blue skies and a warm desert climate make the South Okanagan Valley an ideal home for Area 27. The region is known for lakes, beaches, mountains, outdoor recreation, resort hotels, fine dining, and one of the world's premier wine-tourism destinations.
Hidden in the hills overlooking the valley, Area 27's 227-acre site hints at the origin of the name. The number 27 was chosen as a tribute to Canadian racing legend Gilles Villeneuve, who made the number famous driving for Ferrari.
Area 27 Motorsports Heritage
In 1987, Bill Drossos was competing in the Formula 2000 series at Ontario's pre-eminent racing school when he met Jacques Villeneuve and David King. During that time, Drossos said that if a great racetrack could be built in a resort community, it would be something truly special.
Twenty-five years later, in 2012, Drossos identified land suitable for a racetrack that matched the original vision. He called on friends from his early racing days, Villeneuve and King, to reunite and form South Okanagan Motorsports Corporation. That team was tasked with completing the vision now known as Area 27.
The Circuit
The Area 27 Circuit has the unique distinction of being envisioned, designed, engineered, and constructed by professional racecar drivers.
Designed to take advantage of the natural terrain, Area 27's sixteen turns flow through elevation changes like a favorite country road. Straightaways are long enough to generate speed while giving drivers time to process the previous corner's challenge. Great corners are defined by what comes before and what happens after them, and Area 27 was built with that in mind.
Members turned their first laps on September 12, 2016.
- 16 main-circuit corners
- 3.0 mi / 4.83 km full length
