How large is the Area 27 circuit?
The main road circuit is 4.83 km, or approximately 3 mi, long and contains 16 turns. It follows the natural terrain of the South Okanagan and incorporates significant elevation change, modern run-off areas, gravel traps, and tire barriers.
Who designed the Area 27 circuit?
The circuit was designed by Jacques Villeneuve to combine the flow and character of a classic Grand Prix course with modern track-design principles. The resulting layout is intended to challenge experienced drivers while still supporting structured instruction for developing drivers.
Do I need motorsport or racing experience to visit Area 27?
Not for every experience. Kartplex, Rally Kart, introductory Academy 27 programs, and ZR2 off-road programs are designed to accommodate first-time participants. Member lapping and advanced Academy programs require appropriate qualifications, experience, or successful completion of designated training.
Can children and teenagers participate?

Can visitors from the United States or other countries book an Area 27 experience?
Yes. Public programs and private events can be booked by visitors from Canada, the United States, and other countries, subject to the selected program requirements. Academy 27 and ZR2 participants must present a valid driver's license; international licenses are accepted when they are legally valid for use in Canada. Prices are listed in Canadian dollars and applicable taxes are added.
I’m not driving. Do I still need a waiver?
Yes. Everyone entering the Area 27 property, including non-driving guests, must complete the required liability waiver.
When is Area 27 open?
Area 27 operates seasonally, and track activity is weather-dependent. Program dates, member lapping days, event closures, and public-experience hours can change, so the online calendar and the booking page for the selected activity should be treated as the current source of information.
What happens if the weather changes?
Weather policies differ by activity. Academy 27 and ZR2 programs and Rally Kart generally proceed in rain, with activities adjusted, paused, or rescheduled when conditions create a safety concern. Kartplex availability can also be affected by surface and weather conditions. Review the applicable booking terms before arrival.
Is food available at Area 27?
Food and beverage service depends on the type of visit. Members and their registered guests have access to clubhouse dining during scheduled service, several Academy 27 and ZR2 programs include meals or refreshments, and private-event catering can be arranged. The clubhouse is not promoted as a general drop-in public restaurant, so visitors should confirm dining arrangements before arriving.

What is an Area 27 membership?
Area 27 membership provides access to a private motorsports club centered on the main road circuit, clubhouse, member lapping calendar, social events, coaching opportunities, and selected member benefits. Membership is intended for driving enthusiasts who want regular track access and a long-term connection to the Area 27 community.
How much track access do members receive?
Area 27 currently promotes a minimum of 15 member track days per month during the operating season, including long-weekend opportunities. The exact dates, run groups, evening sessions, race events, and private closures are shown on the current Area 27 calendar.
Is Area 27 membership family-based?
Area 27 family membership is intended for the member and their immediate nuclear family. Current eligibility, age limits, transfer rules, fees and driving privileges are confirmed in the membership agreement.
Do I need previous track experience before becoming a member?
Previous experience is helpful but is not the only route into membership. Drivers must be assigned an appropriate experience classification before participating in member lapping. Newer drivers can build the required knowledge and skills through Academy 27 or other approved instruction.
How are member drivers classified?
Area 27 uses experience classifications such as Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Professional. Classification is based on licensing, recognized driving schools, recent track or racing experience, demonstrated competence, and Area 27 approval. A driver may be asked to complete orientation, coaching, or additional training before moving to a higher group.
Can members use Kartplex?
The membership experience currently includes member access to Kartplex. The specific sessions, booking process, Pit Pass requirements, guest access, and any exclusions should be checked with Kartplex or the membership team before arrival.
Can members bring non-driving guests?
Yes. Under the 2026 Rules and Regulations, Regular and Charter members may register up to 15 non-driving guests per month. Corporate Members may register up to 45 non-driving guests per month on Open Members' Lapping Days. All guests must be registered, complete the waiver, and follow facility rules.
Can a member invite a guest to drive on the main circuit?
Yes, within the current guest-pass limits and subject to advance approval. Regular and Charter members currently receive eight driving guest passes per calendar year. A single guest may drive on no more than three days in the same calendar year, and participation in Academy 27 does not count toward that three-day guest limit.
How far in advance must a driving guest be registered?
A driving guest application should be submitted at least 24 hours before the guest's first on-track session. Under the 2026 rules, an on-time guest registration carries a $200 plus GST fee. A submission made within 24 hours or on the day may be charged $300 or refused at Area 27's discretion.
Can a non-driving guest ride as a passenger?
A registered non-driving guest may ride as a passenger only when the driver and vehicle satisfy the current passenger rules. The sponsoring member must be classified Intermediate or higher, the passenger must use approved safety equipment and equivalent restraints, and track officials retain final authority.
Can members entertain guests in the clubhouse?
Yes. The clubhouse is designed for member hospitality, dining, and social use. Registered guests may dine with their sponsoring member, subject to current clubhouse hours and policies. Member locker rooms remain restricted, and all guests must follow dress, conduct, food-and-beverage, and access rules.
What coaching is available to members?
Members can book private coaching and participate in Area 27 driving programs designed to improve consistency, technique, data use, and track knowledge. Coaching availability depends on the instructor calendar, driver classification, vehicle, and goals of the session.
What other benefits are available to members?
The membership experience includes scheduled social and dining events, selected local partner benefits, Pirelli tire ordering, and other seasonal programs. Benefits and partner offers can change, so current member communications should be used for the latest information.
Does Area 27 provide trackside tire service?
Area 27 offers members scheduled tire mounting, balancing, and repair appointments during Member Lapping Wednesdays, Thursdays, and selected Friday evenings. The service is currently limited to car and truck tires and should be booked in advance.
Is on-track vehicle damage insurance available?
Optional on-track physical-damage coverage is available to Area 27 members and guests through Acera TrackGuard, subject to the insurer's eligibility, terms, deductibles, exclusions, and approval. Standard road insurance may exclude track use, so each driver is responsible for confirming appropriate coverage before participating.

Public go-karting

What is Kartplex at Area 27?
Kartplex is Area 27's outdoor karting center in Oliver, British Columbia. Its approximately 1.2 km circuit was designed to support both first-time drivers and experienced racers, with Arrive + Drive Racing karts, youth programs, coaching, league racing, endurance events, and private group packages.
Is Kartplex open to the public?
Yes. Kartplex offers public Arrive + Drive Racing sessions as well as booked group events. You do not need to be an Area 27 member, although every driver must complete the required registration, waiver, and Pit Pass or membership requirements.
Do I need a reservation for Kartplex?
Yes. Reservations are currently required for public Kartplex sessions. Use the live booking system to select an available date and time before travelling to the facility.
How long is a public karting session?
A standard Arrive + Drive Racing session is approximately 12 minutes. Multi-session packs and other formats may be available, while league, endurance, academy, RMax, and private events use different session structures.
What is a Kartplex Pit Pass?
Every public participant must hold a valid Kartplex Pit Pass or qualifying Kartplex or Area 27 membership. The Pit Pass supports access to rental-kart and league programs but does not automatically include race practice or event-entry privileges.
How old do you have to be to go karting at Kartplex?
Kartplex offers different karts and programs for different ages. Drivers under 13 must complete the Rookie Racer course before independent Arrive + Drive Racing. Kartplex also publishes a Sparky kart program for younger drivers, generally ages three to eight, subject to current availability and driver fit.
What is the Rookie Racer course?
Rookie Racer is the required orientation for drivers aged 12 and under before they can independently rent and race the applicable Arrive + Drive Racing karts. The program currently includes a short classroom session, instructor-led braking and cornering drills, and progression to a full-track session at the instructor's discretion.
Do drivers under 19 need a parent or guardian?
Yes. A parent or guardian must complete the Kartplex waiver for every driver under 19. If the parent or guardian cannot attend, Kartplex may require the waiver to be completed or notarized in the prescribed manner before the driver can participate.
Do I need previous karting experience?
No. Kartplex rental sessions are designed for first-time and returning drivers. Staff provide safety instructions and explain the rules before driving. Youth drivers who fall within the Rookie Racer requirement must complete that course first.
What should I wear for Kartplex?
Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Shorts and T-shirts are permitted, although weather-appropriate clothing and gloves are recommended in colder conditions. Helmet and balaclava rental is included with the required race and Pit Pass purchase; driving suits are optional.
What driving rules apply at Kartplex?
Kartplex prohibits contact, spinning, drifting, leaving the paved racing surface, and unsafe or unsportsmanlike conduct. Drivers must follow marshal instructions and the electronic safety-control system. Alcohol, drugs, abusive behavior, and deliberate dangerous driving are not tolerated.
How fast are the Kartplex rental karts?
Published specifications vary by kart. Kartplex lists the R25 at more than 80 km/h, the R13 Mini at more than 70 km/h, and the advanced RMax at approximately 100 km/h. Actual speed depends on the kart, configuration, driver, conditions, and safety controls.
What is the Kartplex RMax experience?
RMax is Kartplex's higher-performance rental-kart program. Before reserving an RMax session, a driver must complete a supervised R25 session, pass the RMax licence test, and reserve during designated practice hours. Separate pricing, Pit Pass, and availability requirements apply.
Does Kartplex offer leagues, endurance racing, or coaching?
Yes. Kartplex offers rental-kart league racing, team endurance events, Rookie Racer, private coaching, workshops, and other development programs. Dates, eligibility, pricing, and kart requirements differ, so check the current Kartplex schedule and program pages.
Can I book Kartplex for a corporate event, birthday, or private group?
Yes. Kartplex offers multi-session group packages for corporate events, team building, birthdays, bachelor or bachelorette parties, family events, and other private groups. Current packages use a minimum charge based on 15 drivers and can accommodate up to 65 drivers, with a 50 percent deposit at booking. Confirm current capacities, deposits, and package details when requesting a proposal.
What happens if I cancel or the weather is unsafe?
Refund, credit, and cancellation rules differ for public bookings and private events. Kartplex may suspend running when conditions are unsafe, and weather-related cancellations may be handled with booking credit rather than a cash refund. Review the current Kartplex policy before purchasing.

What is Rally Kart at Area 27?
Rally Kart is an off-road karting experience on a purpose-built dirt track at Area 27 in Oliver, British Columbia. The loose surface and rugged karts create a different driving experience from traditional paved go-karting, with controlled slides, quick direction changes and plenty of action.
Is Rally Kart open to the public?
Yes. Rally Kart is available to the public, and you do not need to be an Area 27 member to participate. Advance reservations are recommended so you can secure your preferred session time.
How old do you have to be to drive a Rally Kart?
Drivers must be at least 12 years old to participate.
Do I need previous karting or off-road driving experience?
No previous karting, racing or off-road experience is required. Participants receive instructions before driving and must follow all directions provided by the Rally Kart team.
How long is a Rally Kart session?

What should I wear for Rally Kart?
All drivers must wear closed-toe shoes. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing is also recommended because Rally Kart takes place outdoors on a dirt track.
Do I need to bring a helmet?
No. A helmet is the only required piece of safety equipment, and Area 27 will provide one for you.
Can friends and family watch?
Yes. Spectators are welcome and may watch from designated viewing areas while following staff directions and remaining within approved spectator locations.
How is Rally Kart different from Kartplex go-karting?
Rally Kart takes place on a dirt surface and is designed around off-road handling and controlled sliding. Kartplex operates on a paved racing circuit where drivers focus on racing lines, braking, smooth cornering and lap times. Both experiences are available at Area 27, but each offers a very different style of driving.
Can Rally Kart be booked for a corporate event or private group?
Yes. Rally Kart can be included in corporate events, team-building programs, private celebrations and group experiences. Contact the Area 27 events team to discuss group size, availability, scheduling and opportunities to combine Rally Kart with other Area 27 activities.

Academy 27 is Area 27's performance-driving school and experience program. It combines classroom learning, professional coaching, and controlled on-track sessions on the Area 27 circuit, with options for first-time participants, developing drivers, advanced graduates, private coaching, and corporate groups.
Do I need to be an Area 27 member to attend Academy 27?
No. Academy 27 programs are available to qualifying members and non-members. Each program has its own age, licence, experience, vehicle, deposit, and prerequisite requirements.
Is Academy 27 suitable for beginners?
Yes. The 1-Day Area 27 Introduction and the 2.5-Day Essentials Academy are designed to build foundational skills such as vision, smooth steering, braking, vehicle balance, corner entry and exit, track etiquette, flags, and safety. Instructors adjust feedback to the participant's experience and progress.
Which Academy 27 program should I choose?
Choose the 1-Day Introduction for a premium first experience without an open-lapping credential. Choose the 2.5-Day Essentials Academy for deeper instruction and eligibility to apply for an ORRA 27 lapping license. Masters, Advanced Lapping, and private coaching are intended for graduates or drivers with comparable approved experience.
What is included in the 1-Day Area 27 Introduction?
The one-day program currently includes controlled full-circuit lapping, instructor feedback, lunch and refreshments, and instruction in core high-performance driving techniques. Participants can select an eligible personal vehicle or an available Academy 27 fleet vehicle, subject to the selected booking option.
Does the 1-Day Introduction qualify me for open lapping?
No. The 1-Day Area 27 Introduction is an experience and skills program, not a sanctioned credential for open lapping at Area 27 or another circuit. Drivers seeking a lapping pathway should review the 2.5-Day Essentials Academy and current ORRA 27 requirements.
What is the 2.5-Day Essentials Academy?
The 2.5-Day Essentials Academy combines classroom theory, short-course exercises, full-circuit lapping, flag and safety education, and personalized coaching. Graduates receive a completion certificate and may apply for an ORRA 27 lapping license, subject to the applicable approval process.
Does completing the 2.5-Day Academy automatically grant a license?
No. Completion creates eligibility to apply; it is not an automatic license without the required application and approval. The personal-vehicle flagship program also describes eligibility to apply for an ORRA 27 Novice race license, subject to current ORRA 27 rules.
What advanced Academy 27 programs are available?
The current program line-up includes a Masters Academy with open lapping and Performance Data Recorder analysis, a 1-Day Advanced Lapping program for qualified drivers using approved personal vehicles, and customized half-day or full-day private coaching. Prerequisites apply.
Can I bring my own car?
Yes, for programs that offer a personal-vehicle option. Your car must meet Area 27 safety and preparation standards, and you remain responsible for its mechanical condition and insurance. Some programs require an Academy fleet vehicle, while Advanced Lapping specifically requires an eligible personal vehicle.
Which Academy 27 fleet vehicles are available?
Current fleet options shown by Academy 27 include Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Corvette E-Ray, and Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing models, with additional vehicles used for selected programs. Fleet assignment depends on the course, availability, driver eligibility, rental terms, and vehicle choice at booking.
What age and license requirements apply?
Participants must present a valid driver's license. The current Academy information and the Academy 27 and ZR2 Terms and Conditions set a minimum age of 21 for renting Corvette, Cadillac, or ZR2 fleet vehicles, with limited exceptions requiring advance approval. Personal-vehicle eligibility may differ, so contact Academy 27 regarding any participant under 21.
Do I need to know how to drive a manual transmission?
Only when the selected vehicle has a manual transmission. Drivers choosing or bringing a manual vehicle must already be proficient in its operation. Confirm the transmission of the assigned fleet vehicle during booking.
Is a helmet provided?
Yes. Academy 27 provides the helmets and required safety gear for its on-track programs. Participants are responsible for using the equipment as directed and for damage to borrowed equipment. Personal clothing and footwear requirements will be included in the pre-event information.
Are meals and refreshments included?
Many Academy 27 programs include lunch, refreshments, breakfast, dinner, or a combination, as stated on the individual course page. Tell the team about dietary restrictions in advance. Additional charges may apply for meals requested for non-driving guests.
Can I bring a non-driving guest?
Yes, with advance approval. Guests must be pre-arranged, complete the liability waiver, stay in designated viewing areas, and avoid interfering with classroom or on-track instruction. Submit guest names and dietary information in advance if they will join a meal.
What happens if it rains?
Academy 27 programs generally proceed in rain. Instructors may adjust, pause, or reschedule activities when extreme weather or track conditions create a safety concern. Program changes and force-majeure decisions are governed by the current terms and conditions.
Is a damage deposit required, and is insurance available?
A credit-card pre-authorization is required for applicable personal and fleet vehicles, with the amount based on the vehicle and program. Damage-free deposits are normally released within three business days. Optional daily TrackGuard coverage through Acera may be available for eligible personal and Area 27 fleet vehicles.
What is the Academy 27 cancellation policy?
Full payment is required to reserve a place. Current terms state that refunds are generally not offered except for qualifying extenuating circumstances or force majeure. When a participant must cancel, funds may be held and applied to a new program date. Courses may also be rescheduled if minimum participation is not met.
Are international driver's licenses accepted?
International licenses are accepted when they are legally valid for use in Canada and the participant satisfies all other program and rental requirements. Visitors should verify their license, travel, insurance, and payment arrangements before travelling.
Can Academy 27 create a private or corporate program?
Yes. Academy 27 can support private instruction, client entertainment, team experiences, and customized corporate programs. Options may include the main circuit, Academy fleet, Kartplex, Rally Kart, ZR2 off-road activities, hospitality, meals, and professional instructors, subject to a tailored proposal.

Area 27 can host corporate retreats, team-building programs, client entertainment, private track days, product demonstrations, automotive media launches, vehicle testing, content production, off-road training, celebrations, hospitality events, and customized driving experiences.
Can we book Area 27 for an event without driving on the main circuit?
Yes. An event can be built around the clubhouse, classroom, terrace, Kartplex, Rally Kart, or off-road facilities without requiring every guest to drive the main circuit. The events team can create a program that balances meetings, dining, entertainment, and optional driving activities.
Do our guests need previous motorsport experience?
No. Area 27 can structure activities for first-time participants and mixed-experience groups, with professional instruction, briefings, controlled exercises, and appropriate vehicle assignments. Advanced track use, open lapping, or specialized testing may require additional driver qualifications.
Can we combine several activities in one event?
Yes. Depending on availability, a program can combine the main circuit, Kartplex, Rally Kart, ZR2 off-road driving, classroom sessions, hospitality, dining, and local South Okanagan activities. The events team will build the schedule around group size, objectives, skill levels, and travel time.
How many guests can Area 27 accommodate?
Capacity depends on the spaces and activities selected. The clubhouse accommodates up to 60 guests indoors, and the 2,500-square-foot wrap-around patio accommodates up to 60 guests outdoors. Final occupancy depends on the approved layout and service plan. Program limits are separate: Arrive & Drive packages host up to 28 participants, while Kartplex group packages currently accommodate 15 to 65 drivers.
Can Area 27 host an automotive product or media launch?
Yes. The facility is designed for product launches, media programs, vehicle demonstrations, content generation, and hospitality. The circuit, paddock, clubhouse showroom, observation terrace, presentation equipment, on-site fuel, off-road terrain, and local scenery can be combined into a technical and guest-facing program.
Can a display vehicle be brought into the clubhouse?
The second-floor hospitality area includes three sliding glass doors intended to support showcase-vehicle access. Vehicle dimensions, weight, fuel level, tires, floor protection, timing, fire requirements, and movement plans must be approved in advance.
Has Area 27 hosted major automotive programs before?
Yes. Area 27's published event material includes the television show The Grand Tour, the Camaro ZL1 1LE media program and the McLaren Epic Tour of British Columbia. Contact the events team to discuss previous projects and how a similar launch, tour, demonstration, or hospitality program could be developed.
Can Area 27 support private vehicle testing or confidential work?
The circuit and support areas can be considered for private testing and closed programs. Confidentiality, exclusive access, photography restrictions, media control, data handling, security, and any non-disclosure agreement should be discussed during the proposal process rather than assumed.
What is included in an exclusive Arrive + Drive package?
Area 27 offers fully inclusive Arrive & Drive packages that provide everything needed for the chosen experience. Packages include exclusive track access, vehicles, fuel, insurance, an instructor team, and catering, and are designed for groups of up to 28 participants. Larger or differently structured groups can request a custom package. Exact inclusions will be stated in the proposal and contract.
Can participants bring their own vehicles?
Yes, when the proposed activity and vehicle meet Area 27 requirements. Personal vehicles must meet eligibility requirements and have suitable tires and brakes. Some experiences use Area 27 fleet vehicles only.
What meeting and presentation equipment is available?
Current facility information lists complimentary Wi-Fi, five 65-inch monitors, an AV and surround-sound system, a furnished hospitality and showroom space, and a classroom. Confirm the required inputs, microphones, internet capacity, electrical power, staging, lighting, and technical support during event planning.
Can Area 27 arrange catering and local suppliers?
Area 27 can support food and beverage planning and recommend local suppliers for accommodation, transportation, vehicle detailing, wineries, golf, and other South Okanagan activities. Requested services, dietary requirements, timing and estimated guest count will be reviewed as part of the event proposal.
Can U.S. or international companies hold an event at Area 27?
Yes. Area 27 can prepare proposals for Canadian, U.S., and international organizations. Pricing will be provided in Canadian dollars. The events team can also support planning needs such as transport logistics, insurance, accommodation, airport transfers, waivers, and local providers.
What happens if weather affects our event?
The event plan should include weather contingencies for every selected activity. Some instruction can proceed in rain, while activities such as karting may be affected. Schedules may need to be adjusted for safety, and Area 27 will provide an adjusted program as needed. The contract will state the applicable force-majeure terms.
Can alcohol be served at a private event?
Alcohol service may be possible in approved hospitality areas, but it must be planned in advance. Guests who consume alcohol will no longer be eligible to drive or ride on track for the remainder of the event. Driving must be completed before alcohol service begins, and no participant may drive while impaired. The event proposal should clearly separate driving and beverage service.
Does every guest need a waiver?
Yes. Everyone entering the facility must complete the required Area 27 waiver, whether or not they plan to drive. The organizer must provide an accurate guest list and distribute pre-event instructions before the event.
How far in advance should we book?
High-value corporate events, launches, private track rentals, and multi-facility programs should be planned as early as possible because the operating season, member calendar, staffing, vehicles, catering, transportation, and accommodation can limit availability. We recommend booking by November of the year before your preferred event date. Submit preferred dates, group size, objectives, budget range, and required facilities with the initial inquiry.
How is corporate-event pricing determined?
Area 27 offers two event formats. Choose an a la carte track rental, where your event is built from a base track rental and tailored with services based on your group size, event objectives, and participant experience, or select one of our Arrive & Drive experiences, which feature all-inclusive package pricing for groups up to a specified maximum size. A detailed proposal will outline all included services, optional enhancements, applicable taxes, deposits, cancellation terms, damage responsibility, and any minimum charges.

What is a Member Lapping Day?
A Member Lapping Day is scheduled track time for approved Area 27 members and authorized driving guests to drive the main circuit in designated run groups. It is not an open public track day. Participation is controlled by driver classification, vehicle eligibility, safety requirements, the daily schedule, and instructions from Area 27 officials.
Where can I find the current lapping schedule?
Use the Area 27 online calendar and member communications for the current schedule. Dates, paddock hours, driver meetings, evening sessions, run groups, race weekends, private bookings, and weather-related changes can occur throughout the season.
Who is eligible to drive on a Member Lapping Day?
Approved members may drive within their assigned experience group. Authorized guests may drive only after the required application, fee, qualification review, waiver, orientation, and sponsoring-member responsibilities have been completed. Area 27 may restrict guest participation when member demand is high.
What do the driver classifications mean?
Novice drivers have limited track experience and require structured development. Intermediate drivers have completed recognized training or demonstrated comparable experience. Advanced drivers generally hold a recent recognized competition license or equivalent school credentials, while Professional drivers hold qualifying national or international credentials. Area 27 has final authority over classification.
What is the minimum age for main-circuit driving?
The 2026 rules set a general minimum driving age of 16. Members under 19 require parental consent and must normally be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, subject to the exceptions and licensing provisions in the current rules. Contact Area 27 in advance regarding any driver under 19.
Do I have to attend the driver meeting?
Yes. Drivers must attend the required meeting or briefing before going on track and must understand flags, pit-lane procedure, passing rules, sound limits, and the day's operating instructions. A driver may enter the circuit only when authorized by the Grid Marshal, Senior Instructor, or other designated official.
What vehicle checks are required?
The vehicle owner is responsible for presenting a mechanically sound vehicle suitable for track use. Tires, brakes, fluids, wheel fasteners, steering, restraints, and loose items should be checked before every session. Area 27 may inspect a vehicle and may refuse or stop participation if a safety concern is identified.
Can I drive a convertible or open-cockpit car?
A convertible or open-cockpit vehicle must have suitable rollover protection, such as an approved factory system or a chassis-mounted roll bar, and must comply with the current safety rules. Convertibles without acceptable rollover protection are not permitted on track.
What helmet and clothing do I need?
Drivers and passengers must wear an approved Snell automobile-racing helmet and closed-toe driving shoes. Under the 2026 rules, SA2010 helmets remain permitted through the 2026 season; beginning January 2027, SA2015 or newer is required. Helmets must carry the required Area 27 approval sticker.
Are harnesses and head-and-neck restraints required?
The driver and passenger must use equivalent restraint systems. A head-and-neck restraint is strongly recommended when a four-, five-, or six-point harness is used. Vehicle configuration, roll protection, seats, harness installation, and passenger equipment must comply with the current rules.
Can I take a passenger during member lapping?
Passenger rides are controlled by driver classification, vehicle eligibility, equivalent restraints, helmet requirements, waiver status, and track authorization. A non-driving guest may ride only with an approved member classified Intermediate or higher, and officials may suspend passenger rides at any time.
What are the passing rules?
Passing is allowed only in designated zones, generally on the left side, and only after a clear point-by or left-turn signal from the vehicle being passed. The pass must be completed before the braking zone. The Grid Marshal may change passing zones or procedures for conditions, run groups, or special sessions.
Which passing zones are normally used?
The 2026 rules identify passing zones between Turns 1 and 2, Turns 3 and 4 with caution, Turns 7 and 8, Turns 12 and 13, and Turns 16 and 1. The daily briefing and current passing-zone map take precedence because officials may amend these areas.
Which direction does the main circuit run?
Member lapping normally runs counterclockwise. Drivers must follow the day's pit-exit, warm-up, cool-down, flag, and track-entry instructions and must never enter the circuit without authorization.
What are the sound limits?
The current limits are 103 dB for cars and 97 dB for motorcycles, measured at 50 ft during full-throttle acceleration. A vehicle that exceeds the limit, or repeatedly lifts to avoid the measurement, may be removed from running until effective sound attenuation is installed.
Can I use a camera or phone in the vehicle?
Cameras and data devices must be rigidly mounted. Exterior cameras require a secondary tether, helmet-mounted cameras are not permitted, and hand-held devices may not be used. A phone may be used only when securely mounted for approved data or video purposes. Academy programs may apply stricter camera rules.
What should I do after a spin or wheel drop?
Regain control safely, complete a cool-down lap as directed, and report the incident to track staff. The vehicle may require inspection before returning to the circuit. Continuing to drive after an off-track event without reporting it can create a safety risk and may breach the rules.
Where can I fuel my vehicle?
Area 27 has a fueling station where you can buy high-octane fuel. Self-fueling is allowed only in designated areas and must follow all fire, spill, and paddock procedures. Report any spill immediately. Canopies and equipment must be secured without damaging the asphalt, and jacks or stands should use suitable protective pads.
Are alcohol, cannabis, or impairing medications allowed?
No driver may participate while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, recreational drugs, or any medication that compromises safe operation. Alcohol and cannabis are prohibited in the active track and paddock environment, and Area 27 officials may refuse participation whenever impairment is suspected.
Can I book coaching, tire service, or insurance for a lapping day?
Yes. Members can inquire about private coaching, schedule eligible trackside tire service, and apply for optional on-track physical-damage insurance through Acera TrackGuard. These services require advance arrangements and are subject to availability and separate terms.
Which document has the final rules?
The current Area 27 Rules and Regulations, together with the daily driver briefing, posted notices, marshal instructions, vehicle-preparation guides, flag guide, and passing-zone map, are authoritative. Members and guests should review the current-year documents before participating.

ZR2 Off-Road Experience

What is the ZR2 Off-Road Experience at Area 27?
The ZR2 Off-Road Experience is a professionally guided program on Area 27's Birds of Prey off-road course. Participants drive Chevrolet Colorado or Silverado ZR2 trucks through purpose-built terrain while learning vehicle controls, obstacle assessment, traction management, controlled climbs and descents, and off-road technique.
Do I need to be an Area 27 member?
No. The ZR2 Off-Road Experience is available to qualifying public participants, private groups, and corporate events. Pre-registration, a valid driver's license, waivers, rental documents, and the applicable deposit are required.
What is the difference between the 3-Hour and 1-Day ZR2 programs?
The 3-Hour experience introduces ZR2 systems, core off-road technique, and purpose-built obstacles in a focused half-day format. The 1-Day program adds more extensive instruction and real-world terrain, plus lunch and additional driving time. Both include the vehicle and professional guidance.
Do I need previous off-road experience?
No. The programs are designed for first-time off-road drivers as well as participants who want to improve existing skills. Drivers must follow instructor directions and be able to operate the vehicle safely.
Which vehicles are used?
The program uses specially prepared Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado ZR2 fleet trucks. Vehicle assignment and any opportunity to change vehicles depend on the course, availability, participant pairing, and the Chief Instructor's discretion.
Can I bring my own truck?
No. Personal vehicles are not permitted in the public ZR2 off-road programs. The curriculum is built around the equipment, dimensions, technology, safety systems, and capabilities of Area 27's Chevrolet fleet.
What terrain will I drive?
The Birds of Prey course includes features such as riverbed rock crawls, log crossings, steep climbs and descents, articulation zones, side tilts, gravel, sand, and other controlled obstacles. The exact route and exercise sequence depend on the program, conditions, and instructor plan.
What is the minimum driver age?
The ZR2 program has a minimum age of 18.
Do I need a driver's license?
Yes. Every driver must hold and present a valid driver's license. International licenses are accepted when they are legally valid for use in Canada. Any exception for a younger or specially qualified participant requires written advance approval.
Can I bring passengers?
Yes. Passengers are welcome with pre-registration. The current program page states that passengers must be aged nine or older, while the terms also allow a younger child who meets the applicable ICBC requirement to travel without a booster seat. Passenger eligibility should be confirmed before booking.
Will I share a truck with another participant?
Participants may be paired and take turns driving and riding. A full-vehicle buyout is available and currently includes up to four guests with a maximum of two drivers per vehicle. Confirm the exact combination of drivers and passengers during booking.
What should I wear, and is a helmet required?
Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for movement. Current terms state that no special safety equipment is required for the off-road portion because the vehicles and course provide the required systems. A helmet is provided and required only when a program also includes an on-track driving segment.
Is food included?
Light refreshments and snacks are included. Programs lasting more than three hours include lunch, and the current one-day ZR2 program specifically lists lunch and refreshments. Submit dietary restrictions before the event so the team can plan appropriate options.
What happens if it rains?
ZR2 programs generally proceed in rain. Activities, routes, timing, or obstacles may be adjusted, paused, or rescheduled when extreme weather or terrain conditions create a safety concern. The current terms and event communications govern any program change.
Is a damage deposit required?
Yes. The deposit is pre-authorized on a credit card and depends on the vehicle and experience. If an incident occurs, the deposit may be held while the vehicle is assessed, and additional charges may apply under the rental terms. Damage-free deposits are normally released within three business days.
Is insurance available?
Optional daily TrackGuard coverage through Acera may be available for eligible Area 27 fleet vehicles, subject to the insurer's terms and approval. Booking documents should state the participant's financial responsibility, deductible, exclusions, and available coverage options.
Does the ZR2 program qualify me for Area 27 open lapping?
No. The ZR2 experience is not a sanctioned main-circuit driving-school credential and does not qualify a participant for open lapping. Drivers seeking a track-lapping pathway should review the Academy 27 Essentials program and current ORRA 27 requirements.
Can the ZR2 experience be booked for a corporate or private group?
Yes. The ZR2 experience can be incorporated into private celebrations, team building, client entertainment, product demonstrations, or corporate events. Group size, vehicle buyouts, schedule, hospitality, other Area 27 activities, and pricing are arranged through a customized proposal.
